Digitizing Hidden Special Collections and Archives: Amplifying Unheard Voices is a national grant competition administered by the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) inviting proposals to digitize materials that deepen public understanding of the histories of people of color and other communities and populations whose work, experiences, and perspectives have been insufficiently recognized or unattended. The program is a continuation of the Digitizing Hidden Special Collections and Archives: Enabling New Scholarship through Increasing Access to Unique Materials generously supported by the Mellon Foundation since 2015.
Since 2015, Digitizing Hidden Collections has awarded approximately $4 million annually to institutions holding collections of high value for research, teaching, and learning. An independent review panel, comprising experts from a range of scholarly and technical disciplines, evaluates proposals and recommends award recipients.
